LOBSTER AT $4? Multi award-winning seafood restaurant The Boiler opens new outlet at Esplanade mall
Ahoy there! Are you ready to find out the next sauciest place in town?
Multi award-winning seafood restaurant, The Boiler, opens its second outlet at Esplanade Mall. The expansion also comes with an al fresco bar in addition to the air-conditioned main dining hall (accommodate up to 120 diners)!
In celebration of their new outlet and fourth anniversary, The Boiler is bringing back their special Tamarind sauce for a limited time only! I am also going to try their other popular sauces such as Garlic Butter, Peppa' Butter and the signature sauce The Works.
The Boiler has been voted the Best Seafood Restaurant (2016) by Chope Diner's Choice, Best New Restaurant (2015) and Best Western Restaurant (2016) by HungryGoWhere, and Most Popular Restaurant by Quandoo. With so many awards, I can't wait to try the taste to see if this restaurant really lives up to it's name!
Before we start, I just want to get thank Kenny, Cindy and Valerie for letting me join their table that night. Great company accompanied with great food somehow just boost the overall experience, so I'm grateful to enjoy this food tasting with them! Let us begin!
First Dish: Boston Lobster in Garlic Butter Sauce
Sauce: Concocted with a hearty base of chicken broth made from scratch, and substantiated with just the right amount of garlic, butter and cream to provide a more full-bodied gustatory experience without overshadowing the natural sweet taste of the crustaceans.
My thoughts: I felt that it was a really rich & creamy sauce at first taste, so when I read that it was the mildest of all sauces, I can't imagine what was waiting for me next. As the lobster meat is quite thick as well, this sauce indeed goes well with it.
Second Dish: Prawns, Clams and Mussels in Tamarind Sauce
Sauce: Inspired by the wealth of Asian flavours, The Boiler's Tamarind sauce whets one's appetite upon the first whiff with the tangy touch from the fresh tamarind water used. The perfect amount of butter and fried shallots gently pulls back on the acidity from the sauce to preserve one's ability to taste the crustacean's natural taste without overshadowing the subtle hints from the onions, chilli padi and Thai basil.
My thoughts: This sauce is so refreshing that it makes me want more and more every time, especially after we were served a rich sauce for the first dish. Everyone on the table agreed that this is the best sauce other than The Boiler Signature Sauce (The Works). If your group have already tried The Works, go for this instead for your next round!
Third Dish: Crab with Peppa' Butter Sauce
Sauce: Built on the chicken stock base similar to the milder garlic butter sauce, the chef has figured out the golden ratio of black and Sarawak white peppers to create the perfect balance between the black pepper's aroma and heat from the latter. This buttery upgrade from the classic Singaporean black pepper crab should be on the radar of every Singaporean pepper crab lover.
My thoughts: It would be a great experience for tourists, but as a Singaporean, I would say this is quite similar to Black Pepper Crab sauces in Singapore. Go for the other sauces by The Boiler instead!
Last Dish: The Works with The Boiler Signature Sauce
Sauce: This crown jewel is a secret and meticulous blend of 11 Asian and Cajun spices that are freshly pounded and packed on a daily basis for use in the kitchen. Although the sauce is an explosion of flavours within the mouth, due to the right amount of lemon juice, The Works enhances instead of overpowering the natural flavours of the seafood, especially the crab. The Boiler's signature sauce adds local flavour to the Louisiana seafood experience.
My thoughts: MUST TRY! You get to choose your preferred spice level (mild, medium or ragin' hot) and for people like me who loves spicy seafood, you get the best of both worlds! When you first try it, it may taste like just a delicious sauce. A couple of mouthfuls later, the lemon juice in the sauce will crept up on you, edging you to take more and more.
In conjunction with The Boiler's 4th Anniversary and the launch of their new location at Esplanade Mall, The Boiler is running a SGD4.00* lobster promotion (Usual Price: SGD75.00*) with every order of their signature Bombdiggity bag (SGD149.00, suitable to share for 4 diners).
Promotion runs for three weeks, from 23 July to 12 August 2018. All prices listed subjected to 10% service charge and 7% GST.
