Authentic & Affordable Peranakan Food by Rongma The Curry Rice Stall

Rong Ma The Curry Rice Stall is a food stall located at Timbre Plus Ayer Rajah Crescent serving affordable and authentic Peranakan food since 2017. Every Peranakan restaurant has their very own recipe and Rempah (a complex paste of spices used as the foundation of many Malay, Indonesian and Peranakan dishes) formula hence making their food unique, and they are no exception. Most of their food, such as their rempah, are made from scratch following the recipe written by Baba Azfie’s (the founder) late grandmother.

 I tried their Ayam Bawang Kunyit and Ikan Sambal Balado (not forgetting the curry of course!) and it was unforgettable. The sambal balado chilli was pounded finely, and the taste of everything just blended so well together, held together by the hot and comforting curry ❤ Overall, Rong Ma The Curry Rice Stall is a great place for one looking for authentic taste of local flavors at super affordable prices (less than $8 can get you many ingredients!)

A quick scroll of their Facebook will captivate both your eyes and heart because that is where they showcase their usual morning market runs to get fresh ingredients for the day, as well as cooking up huge pots of curries and spices from scratch. It is not packaged in a commercial way, just simple videos of a young man working hard to preserve the local tastes of Singapore.

Through the Facebook page, I also found out that they do loads of charity work for people in need. They are also featured in Channel News Asia and giving meals to whoever that asks for it. I am really touched by this type of initiatives to help fellow Singaporeans in need and would strongly encourage anyone to check their Facebook page out.
